Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators say a Missouri man was pronounced dead late Sunday morning, Aug. 28, at an area hospital following an apparent drowning at Lake Lanier.

The victim has been identified as Adelso Enrique Barillas, 21, of Kansas City.

According to investigators, the victim had been swimming with two friends at Old Federal Campground in Flowery Branch when he began struggling, went under the water and never resurfaced. Hall County Fire Rescue’s Marine Rescue Team recovered the victim from the water and performed life saving measures, which were continued as the victim was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were also dispatched to the scene.

The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
