The fifth annual Cookies and Cocoa 5K is still accepting runners and sponsors for the coming year’s event at 9:00 a.m. on Jan. 20 at Buford High School.

Buford High School’s CTE Director, Jennifer Wood, told NGV: “The sponsorship and guaranteed t-shirt deadline is January 4th. Sponsorships and runners need to sign up now!”

Six levels of sponsorship are available:

  • Diamond — $2,500+
  • Platinum — $1,000+
  • Gold — $500+
  • Silver — $250+
  • Community — $50+

Ms. Wood described how, “Our 5k started in 2020 when three students, Makenzie Curry, Abby Wood, and Katherine Sterritt, who were in FCCLA, wanted to do a community service project to compete for FCCLA.

They got all the high school and middle school Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO), FBLA, FCCLA, DECA, HOSA, SKILLS USA, and TSA to work together for the 5k. This was an excellent opportunity to provide community service opportunities for CTSO students, and the proceeds helped students compete and travel to CTSO competitions across the nation.”

Participants pay $30 to sign up to run in the event. There is also the option to sign up as a virtual runner for the same price.
