The Buford Gymnastics team hosted the GHSA Gymnastics State Competition April 22 to 24 at the Buford Arena. At one point during the weekend, Buford was as low as fifth place in Class AAAAAA/AAAAAAA but despite injuries that plagued the team, they battled back to finish second. Newnan earned the top spot in the class while Cambridge and Carrollton took third and fourth respectively.
Buford’s Marisa Ashton had a strong showing at state finishing second in the All-Around competition. Buford had several good performances from their athletes during the competition. Ashton had a third-place finish on vault, as well as fifth-place finishes on beam and floor. Temple University commit Jewel Clark finished fourth on the bars and Suhani Munshi earned a fifth-place finish on vault.
Buford’s literary team won the GHSA Class AAAAAA State Championship on Saturday at the BHS Performing Arts Center. Buford accumulated 47 points while the second-place finisher Lee County had 22 points.

Quartet: Mauricio Garduño-Rea, Dylan Appling, Mason Fenno, Geo Nam (1st)
Buford’s riflery team finished in seventh place out of all classifications at the 2021 GHSA State Championship on Saturday at the Olde Mill Range in Griffin. Senior Mikala Kemp finished third while fellow senior Austin Cagle had a tenth place finish.
