Buford 15, Central Gwinnett 0

Central Gwinnett fell to the Buford varsity softball team in just three innings as the Wolves secured the win over the Knights 15-0 at Central Gwinnett on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Wolves remain undefeated with an overall season record of 17-0 and 8-0 in Region 8-AAAAAAA.

The winning pitcher for Buford was junior Emma Grace Williams (5-0), who went for two innings without giving up any hits or runs and striking out five batters. Freshman Addison Rackley got in an inning of work in which she struck out three and also did not give up any hits or runs.

Offensive standouts for the Wolves were senior Jenn Ramirez (1-for-1, three RBIs, one run scored), senior Emma Manders (2-for-2, two RBIs, two runs scored), freshman Summer Castorri (1-for-2, two RBIs, two runs scored, one stolen base) and junior Tavye Borders (1-for-1, two RBIs, one run scored).

Buford will play another region game coming up at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, as the Wolves host Collins Hill.

North Gwinnett 11, Norcross 0

North Gwinnett hosted region opponent Norcross on Tuesday, Sept. 20, and beat the Blue Devils 11-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs’ overall season record improves to 17-4 and 5-0 in Region 7-AAAAAAA.

Two pitchers combined for the win over Norcross. Senior Amber Reed pitched the first three innings striking out seven batters. Junior Morgan Sullivan pitched the last two innings against the Blue Devils.

The offensive leader of the game for North Gwinnett was Ella Janish, who was 2-for-2 and an RBI.

The Bulldogs will play another region game at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, as they take on Peachtree Ridge at Peachtree Ridge.

Lanier 4, Habersham Central 1

Habersham Central 8, Lanier 4

The Lanier Longhorns softball team hosted fellow Region 8-AAAAAA opponent Habersham Central Raiders for a double header Tuesday, Sept. 20. Lanier defeated Habersham Central 4-1 in the opening game but fell to them 8-4 in the second game of the night.

In the opening win, junior Ashley Miner pitched six innings giving up seven hits.

Offensive standouts in the first game were junior Linsey Peevy (2-for-3, one RBI) and junior Madison Baessler (2-for-3).

Despite losing the second game, the Longhorns’ offensive standouts included a 3-for-4 performance from freshman Megan King, as well as two hits each from junior Addison Willett and junior Samantha Fadely.

The Longhorns will have another region double header next Tuesday, Sept. 27, against North Forsyth. The first game starts at 4:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Buford 3, Dacula 0

Dacula was defeated by Buford in a Region 8-AAAAAAA volleyball game on Tuesday, Sept. 20 held at Buford High School. The Wolves beat the Falcons with set scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-20.

Leading Buford’s offense were senior Ashley Sturzoiu, who had 12 kills, and junior Payton Danley with eight kills. On the defense, senior Dylan Cummings had 13 digs. Another senior, Polly Cummings, helped the Wolves with 22 assists.

Buford’s overall season record improves to 22-5 and 4-0 in the region.

On Thursday, Sept. 22, Buford will travel to Berkmar to play in a non-region tournament against Berkmar and Peachtree Ridge. First match starts at 5:30 p.m.

North Gwinnett 2, Duluth 0

North Gwinnett 2, Berkmar 0

The North Gwinnett varsity volleyball team traveled to Duluth on Tuesday, Sept. 20, where the Bulldogs took on both Duluth and Berkmar defeating both region opponents. Against Duluth, North Gwinnett won 25-9, 25-19, and the Bulldogs secured a win against Berkmar 25-14, 25-3.

Standouts for North Gwinnett on Tuesday were senior Joya Screen (20 kills, three aces, 11 digs, two blocks), junior Cailyn Hollinquest (19 kills, two aces, six digs), senior Abby Taylor (42 assists, five kills, three aces, three digs), senior Katherine Mollette (24 digs, three assists, one ace) and senior Kadyn McCarthy (five kills, one ace).

The Bulldogs remain undefeated this season with a record of 28-0 and 4-0 in Region 7-AAAAAAA.

North Gwinnett will play in a non-region tournament on Thursday, Sept. 22, held at Lanier High School against Lanier and Shiloh. The first match starts at 5:45 p.m.
