The San Diego Padres used their No. 15 pick in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft to select Buford right-handed pitcher Dylan Lesko.

Lesko has long been rated as one of the top pitching prospects in the class of 2022. He was rated as the top pitching prospect until an injury during his senior season at Buford happened in April. His injury forced him to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Lesko was a vital part of the success of the Buford Wolves’ baseball team over the past four years. He was named the 2021 Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year, the first player in history to receive this award as a junior. During his senior year, Lesko was named to the 2022 Perfect Game (PG) Preseason Southeast All-Region First Team, was selected as All-County Pitcher of the Year and ITG Baseball Player of the Year and is considered the most dominant pitcher in PG history.
