BUFORD — Detectives with the Gwinnett County Police Department are looking for a man who fraudulently obtained a vehicle by presenting himself to the victim as an owner of a dealership and convincing her to let him send her a check.

On March 6, 2020, the suspect, Brian Keith Dace met the victim in a parking lot near the Mall of Georgia to purchase her vehicle.  Dace convinced the victim that he was a car dealership owner and that he would send her a check once he had taken possession of the vehicle.  The victim was convinced to proceed with the transaction after Dace showed her fictitious paperwork which led her to believe she was indeed selling to a dealership.

Dace never sent the victim the promised check to pay for the vehicle so the victim contacted police.  Dace gave a fake name of Keith Taylor, as well as, a fake date of birth after an officer called him about the vehicle.  The case was turned over to detectives who made short work of finding out Dace’s true identity.

Detectives learned that Dace has pending charges for similar thefts in at least one other county.

A warrant has been issued for Dace for Theft by Deception.  Police are asking anyone that thinks they may have been a victim of Dace to contact the police department.  They are also seeking information that leads police to Dace’s location.
