Gwinnett County siblings Bethany and Timothy Beauchamp were recognized last Tuesday by the Kiwanis Club of North Gwinnett for their participation in the 2018 National History Day (NHD) Contest.

NHD is a nonprofit educational organization that promotes the teaching and learning of history in middle and high schools around the world. Students select a topic related to a chosen theme and conduct original research to put together one of five categories – documentaries, exhibits, papers, performances, and websites.

This year’s theme was Conflict and Compromise in History, in which the Beauchamps decided to put together a skit for the performance category.  They decided to focus on Zoo Atlanta and the conflicts surrounding it in the 1980s.

The sibling team received honorable mention this year at the National History Day Contest held at the University of Maryland at College Park, for their performance. Only 20% of competitors make it to this level. So to say that their accomplishment is big is an understatement.
