Drowning

Hall County Fire Rescue along with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to a call about a possible drowning around 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at Lake Lanier.

The location of where the adult male victim went overboard and did not resurface was in open water between Holiday Marina and Van Pugh South.

Witnessed advised rescue personnel that the person had been missing for approximately 10 minutes before 9-1-1 was called.

Marine Rescue 1 with Hall County Fire Rescue and Georgia DNR used SONAR to scan the area for the victim’s body. The rescue efforts were made more difficult by the area in which the man went under. Rescue personnel were scanning depths of 60 to 90 feet with choppy water in a high traffic area. Thirty minutes into the operation, Hall County suspended their rescue efforts and cleared the scene by 3 p.m. They turned the scene over to Georgia DNR Law Enforcement for recovery operations

So far attempts to locate the victim have not been successful.

No further details have been released at this time.
