(Gainesville, Ga.) — At approximately 1:56 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a child being bitten by a dog in the 2900 block of Gillsville Highway in Gainesville.

The incident occurred inside the residence in a bedroom where the victim was resting. The victim is an infant who was less than a month old. The dog who belongs to the family at the residence bit the infant in the head.

The infant was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville by a Hall County Fire Services unit.  The infant was later pronounced dead.

Hall County Animal Control also responded to the scene and took custody of the dog that bit the infant. Animal Control is in charge of the investigation and release of any additional information regarding the dog.

Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a death investigation and the investigation is in its early stages. There are no charges at this time.

The name of the child has not been released yet.
