BUFORD — The Gwinnett County Police Department released more details about the fatal accident involving a school bus and SUV that occurred on Hamilton Mill Road near Pucketts Mill Road in unincorporated Buford.  The accident took place just before 3 p.m. and involved a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and a Gwinnett County school bus carrying two adults and five children ages 3-7.

The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the Equinox was heading north on Hamilton Mill Road while the bus was heading south.  The driver of the Equinox suddenly lost control of their vehicle as they approached the traffic light at Cascade Falls Drive crossing into oncoming traffic and striking the bus.

Officers upon arrival found the driver of the Equinox unresponsive and was later pronounced dead.  The driver has been identified as Darwin McEntyre, age 80 of Buford.

The two adults on the bus complained of minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital.  None of the children were transported to the hospital either.

The investigators working this case believe that McEntyre could have possibly been having a medical emergency causing the crash.  The Medical Examiner’s Office will make the final determination.
