The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) issued a press release on Dec. 11 announcing the results of a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe to identify the human remains found in a wooded area near Aviation Boulevard on Oct. 14.

The GBI has identified the deceased as 63-year-old Scott Robert Danner. Danner was “a resident of Gainesville’s homeless community,” according to the HCSO.

Danner’s body was found by a visitor to the nearby Department of Driver Services (DDS). The individual was waiting on someone who was inside the department at that time.

After discovering Danner’s body, the person notified DDS employees. An employee issued the 911 call to authorities.

HCSO investigators are “still awaiting results of the final autopsy and toxicology exam before announcing the cause of death”.

They do not currently suspect that foul play was involved.

HCSO is asking the public for help in finding Danner’s relatives and ask that any leads be called in to 770-533-7813.

It is not standard procedure to announce the identity of a deceased person before notifying their next of kin. However, as of this time, there have been no successful attempts in locating any of Danner’s relatives.
