Buford 83, Duluth 28

After working out some first quarter turnovers and missed opportunities, the Buford varsity girls basketball team went on to dominate Duluth in an 83-28 victory in the first round of the Class AAAAAAA GHSA State Basketball playoffs on Tuesday night, Feb. 21 at the Buford Arena.

At one point, Buford (25-3) went on a 51-2 scoring run which was led by junior Ava Grace Watson. Watson finished the night with 16 points. Betty Nguyen scored 15 points, Lydia Ledford contributed with 10 points and Alyssa Green added six points for the Lady Wolves.

Buford advances to the Sweet Sixteen where they will face either Cherokee or West Forsyth. Cherokee and West Forsyth will compete on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The details of Buford’s next playoffs game is TBD.

Central Gwinnett 53, North Gwinnett 44

The North Gwinnett varsity girls basketball team fought hard against Central Gwinnett in the opening round of the Class AAAAAAA State Playoffs but Central Gwinnett managed to defeat North 53-44 to end North’s postseason run.

Standouts for the Bulldogs were Jada Monroe (17 points) and Audrey Loudermilk (11 points).

North Gwinnett ends their season with an overall record of 14-15.
