SUGAR HILL — Lanier hosted a tough Shiloh team on Friday Night where the two teams traded the lead numerous times.  Shiloh jumped out to an early lead but Lanier did not panic.  The Longhorns stayed calm and made sure to chip away at their lead.  It wasn’t long before Lanier had pulled ahead of the Raiders.

Senior Makai Vassell led Lanier scoring 16 points with fellow senior Andrew McConnell contributing with 13 points.

Lanier’s overall record now stands at 11-3 and 3-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

North Gwinnett  69     Mountain View  43

SUWANEE — Mountain View travelled to play Region 8-AAAAAAA foe North Gwinnett on Friday night.  North Gwinnett would take this meeting 69-43.

The Bulldogs were led by junior R.J. Godfrey who put up 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists against the Lions.  Fellow junior Thomas Allard had 12 points and five assists and Brendan Rigsbee added 11 points, six assists and five rebounds for North Gwinnett.  Rounding out the top contributors for the Bulldogs were senior Jordan Hancock with seven points and Dylan Gary who had six points.

North Gwinnett improves their overall season record to 8-7 and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAAA.

Buford  65     Central Gwinnett  53

LAWRENCEVILLE —  The Buford Wolves travelled to play fellow Region 8-AAAAAA opponent Central Gwinnett where they beat the Knights 65-53 on Friday night.

Leading the Wolves was junior Jaylon Taylor who scored 26 points and had five rebounds.  Junior Caleb Blackwell contributed 13 points and had five assists for Buford while senior Marc Mauge added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists.  Rounding out the top performers for the Wolves was sophomore London Williams who posted eight points and had eight rebounds.

Buford’s overall season record so far is 11-2 and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Girls Basketball

Buford  65     Central Gwinnett  19

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Buford girls basketball team proved too much for their hosts, the Central Gwinnett Knights to handle as Buford beat them 65-19.

Buford held Central Gwinnett to just two points in the first quarter while they scored 23 points.  The second quarter was much the same as Buford scored 24 points to Central’s five points.  In the second half of the game, the Wolves added 18 points to the Knights’ 12 points.

Thirteen separate players for Buford scored in their region game with Central Gwinnett on Friday night.

Buford’s overall season record is now 8-0 and 1-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

Lanier  36     Shiloh  27

SUGAR HILL — The Lanier girls basketball team trailed Shiloh going into the half but managed to have a big third quarter to win 36-27.

Shiloh put up 10 points in the first quarter and nine in the second quarter.  Lanier put eight points in each the first and second quarters.  Shiloh went into halftime leading 19 to 16.  The Lady Longhorns had a big third quarter amassing 15 points to the Lady Raiders’ two points pulling the score 31-21 in favor of Lanier.  Shiloh finished the game with six additional points in the fourth quarter but it would not be enough to edge out Lanier as they scored five points in the final quarter.

The Lady Longhorns improve to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

North Gwinnett  54     Mountain View  40

SUWANEE — The North Gwinnett girls basketball team beat Mountain View 54-40 in a region match up at home on Friday night.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-10 overall and they are 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAAA.
