Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services crews were on the scene of a fire at the Mall of Georgia this afternoon, and the building was still evacuated as of about 6:30 p.m.

A 911 caller reported seeing flames near the back of the rue21 store, and shoppers were attempting to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers.

When fire crews arrived on scene, the mall was being evacuated. Inside the rue21 store, crews were able to quickly put out the fire, which involved a clothing rack, with two pressurized water extinguishers. The fire did not extend beyond the area where it originated, but smoke filled the main mall corridor. An electric fan was then used to remove smoke from the store.

A mall security guard was evaluated for possible smoke inhalation but declined treatment.

A fire investigator was on scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
