The 2023 GHSA Game Day Cheer State Championships, which is in its third year, were held on Friday, Feb. 24 at Columbus State University.

In Class AAAAAAA, two-time defending state champions North Gwinnett were looking to make it three state titles but they came up short in this year’s competition. It would be the new comer to Class AAAAAAA, Buford that would ultimately walk away with this year’s state championship title. North Gwinnett would finish as runner-up and another local school, Mill Creek would round out the top three finishers.

Buford’s Game Day Cheerleading team is coached by Caroline Parker and Lisa Cole.

In the Class AAAAA/AAAAAA State Championship, the Lanier Longhorns would take third place. South Effingham would take first place while Lee County placed second.
