The Buford boys and girls tennis teams won the GHSA Region 8AAAAAA championship on Wednesday, March 30, at Buford City Park.
The girls defeated Lanier 3-0 when play was ended after three match wins.
Sophomore Berkley Clark won her singles match, and the two doubles teams, Kylie McCammon and Abigail Foretic and Anna Cate Smith with Millie Patel, also won their matches.
The Buford girls have a record of 17-3 this season and will play the No. 4 seed team from Region 6 in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday, April 21.
The Buford boys tennis team beat Habersham Central 4-0.
Dean Kingsley and James Troutt both came through with victories in their singles matches. The pairs of Brent Sherman and Miller Troutt as well as Matthew Maurer and Luke Clark both won their doubles matches.
The boys team is 17-3 this season and will also face off against the No. 4 seed team from Region 6 also on Thursday, April 21.
“We have an excellent team and have had an excellent year,” said Buford’s head tennis coach Sean Gilbert.
Both the boys and girls teams are undefeated in their region.
