LOGANVILLE — The Buford High School varsity softball team has a strong performance in the region tournament at Walnut Grove High School in Loganville on Tuesday.  Buford beat Loganville 2-1 in eight innings in the first game.  Walnut Grove falls to the Lady Wolves in the second game with Buford up 8-2. Buford will play in the Region 8AAAAA championship game on Thursday at Walnut Grove High School.

In the first game, Buford and Loganville’s defense would have a battle of attrition with the game-winning run coming in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Buford sophomore Taylor Malvin hit a single to left field that enabled senior Anabel Adams to score the point the Lady Wolves would need to beat Loganville 2-1.

The starting pitcher in the first game for Buford was senior Riley Reese who was relieved in the top of the eighth inning by fellow senior Ansleigh Hollifield.  Reese would give up three hits, one run (unearned), and one walk while striking out four.  Hollifield who recorded the win gave up zero hits or runs while and struck out one batter.

Malvin would hit 2-for-4 against Loganville with a double, a game-ending hit, and one RBI.  Junior Abi Perkins was 1-for-2 with a home run, one RBI, and a run.

Walnut Grove would prove an easier game for the Lady Wolves winning 8-2.  Hollifield (8-2) records the win on the mound pitching the entire game.  She gave up four hits, two runs (earned), and three walks while striking out 12.

Leading the offense in game two was Hollifield who went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double, two RBIs, and one run.  Senior Kara Taylor was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, earned three RBIs and two runs.  Freshman Olivia Duncan rounds out the offensive standouts for Buford going 2-for-4 earning one RBI.

Buford has improved its season record to 17-9. They will play on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Walnut Grove High School.  Opponent to be determined.
