Buford emerged the winner against Kell High School in the first round of the Class 6A football playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 13.

The Wolves played at home and notched a 38-14 win over the Longhorns.

Senior running back No. 5 CJ Clinkscales opened the scoring with a touchdown 8 minutes into the game, followed by No. 6 Victor Venn who ran the ball into the endzone just over 5 minutes later. Two good extra point kicks by Buford’s kicker, No. 99 Alejandro Mata, saw Buford finish the first quarter ahead 14-0.

After another touchdown run in by Buford’s No. 32 Christian Butler, Kell pushed back with a 49-yard touchdown pass at the 9:49 mark. Kell then scored again at 6:34, and two successful extra point kicks saw the game go to halftime with a 21-14 scoreline in Buford’s favor.

The Wolves returned from halftime with a vengeance, and Venn ran two more touchdowns in by the end of the third quarter. Two strong points after kicks along with a successful 37-yard field goal attempt by Mata in the fourth quarter sealed Buford’s victory with a decisive final score of 38-14.

Venn was a standout for the Wolves, scoring three of Buford’s five touchdowns. 

The Wolves once again showcased their consistent level of play with the offense rushing an impressive total of 276 yards in 50 attempts, and the defense boasting two sacks during the game against Kell.

Next up, Buford, now with an overall 10-1 record and 6-0 in region play, will play Lovejoy, 5-5 overall and 2-3 in region matchups, on Friday, Nov. 19.
