BUFORD – Buford High School junior Jackson Buchanan announced on Friday, January 3, 2020, that he has decided to commit to play golf and further his education at the University of Illinois.  Led by Coach Mike Small, the Fighting Illini finished their 2019 season with their 5th straight Big Ten Tournament title and their 12th straight appearance at the NCAA Championship tournament.

Buchanan is the son of Dr. and Mrs. John Buchanan of Dacula, Ga.  He has numerous accomplishments under his belt.  Just to name a few, Buchanan is a two time Georgia Golf Coaches Association All-State Team member, finished 5th in the AAAAA State Championship tournament and was named the 2019 Player of the Year for Gwinnett County. He has continued his excellence this past Fall by placing in the top six at the Greenwood Junior Championship, finishing in the top 40 in the prestigious Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational, and earned several points in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge.
