Lily was a manager for the BHS cross country team this past season, where she helped the team by setting up tents at meets, keeping the runners hydrated and recording race and practice times. She is also a manager for the wrestling team this season, where she helps at home meets to electronically score matches and organize the meet area. She ran cross country for two years as a freshman and as a sophomore. She also played club soccer for 10 years before high school and high school soccer for her first two years. Lily has received letters for cross country, both managing and running, and for managing wrestling. She received a varsity letter and MVP award for soccer as a sophomore in 2019.

In addition to being a sports manager, Lily participates in the Spanish Club where she studies and appreciates cultures from Spanish-speaking countries from all across the world. She will be in the Spanish Honor Society next semester. She is also in the National Honor Society, FCCLA, where she is working with two other students on a project for the STAR events competition. The project is centered around organizing a fundraiser for charity. In addition to the project, Lily participates in community service activities. Despite her busy schedule with extracurricular activities, Lily has still been able to maintain a 4.0 unweighted GPA.

In her free time, Lily likes to draw, paint, listen to music and watch movies and videos about fashion and design. While she likes to draw faces, eyes and flowers in a realism style, she enjoys creating more abstract pieces with interesting textures on canvas with acrylic paints. For music, Lily enjoys listening to all sorts of genres,  particularly 1990s and 2000s pop and modern indie pop. Her favorite artists are Paramore, Silver Sphere, Phoebe Bridgers, Matchbox Twenty and Pearl Jam.

Lily’s favorite subject in school is math.

“I like that there is a clear way to get an answer,” she said. “Math has always come easy to me as well.”

While math is her favorite subject, Lily’s favorite classes she has taken are AP psychology and AP world history. She likes psychology because she enjoys the analysis of the brain’s complex behaviors. She enjoyed world history because it allowed her to be introduced to different cultures, both past and present, and learn more about their unique histories.

Lily’s favorite teacher at Buford is her AP calculus teacher, Coach Justin Johnson.

“He is always in a good mood and joking around with his students,” she said. “He checks in on everyone and always makes sure to stay updated on our activities. He is also an excellent calculus teacher.”

After graduating from Buford, Lily plans to attend college. She has already applied to Georgia Tech, UGA, Vanderbilt and the University of South Carolina Honors College. Lily plans to major in either psychology or biology because she wants to go to medical school after she earns her undergraduate degree. She wants to pursue a career as a psychiatrist. After college, Lily wants to move to the northeast and travel across the United States and Europe. Some countries she is particularly interested in visiting are France, London, Ireland and Germany.
