The Buford baseball team won its place in the semifinals of the GHSA Region AAAAAA state playoffs on Tuesday, May 10, after winning a tie-breaker game against Houston County.

The quarter final series opened Monday, May 9, with both teams putting in strong defensive performances to keep the score fairly low. The Wolves took the first game of the series by just 4-2.

Defenses started to slip in the second game, however, and after a closely-fought battle, Buford suffered a slim 7-6 defeat meaning the series would be decided by a third game Tuesday.

Luckily for the Wolves, they came back swinging the second day and hungry to score runs as well to hold their opponents at bay. Buford baseball took the decider game of the series by storm with a more than comfortable 11-1 win that sees them progress to the playoff semifinals.

This is already an improvement on last season in which the Wolves baseball team was eliminated in the sweet 16 round of playoffs by Pope, but they will face the competitive team from Marietta again this year in the semifinal series.

Buford baseball is now 28-8 for the season, and the next playoff series against 29-7 Pope will begin Saturday, May 14, with a tie-breaker to be played on Monday, May 16, if necessary.
