Lake Lanier — Just about a month ago, on a bright September morning, hundreds of volunteers came together for a single purpose — to clean up Lake Lanier.
From the moment the sun hit the water, boats created the first waves of the day, barges pushed off with a mission, and volunteers fanned out across the shoreline armed with bags, gloves, and determination. The goal was simple and shared by everyone involved: make a difference and leave the lake a little cleaner than they found it.

The annual Shore Sweep 2025 brought together people of all ages — families, friends, and community groups — each playing their part, whether on foot, on land, or by boat. By the end of the day, the results spoke for themselves: tons of trash removed and a lake that looked a little more like the natural treasure it’s meant to be.
Events like Shore Sweep remind us how much can be accomplished when a community comes together for a shared cause.
The Lake Lanier Association expressed its gratitude to everyone who took part, saying that the success of Shore Sweep wouldn’t be possible without the continued support of volunteers and partners who care deeply about preserving one of Georgia’s most beloved lakes.
Thank you to everyone who helped keep Lake Lanier beautiful — one bag, one boat, and one shoreline at a time.
