Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a tractor-trailer fire on the northbound side of Interstate 85 between I-985 and Buford Drive on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene about 5 p.m. and found the tractor-trailer on the right shoulder of the road with the rear cargo area of the tractor-trailer on fire. The driver was able to separate the truck portion from the cargo area before fire crews arrived.
The incident initially shut down all northbound lanes of I-85. A wrecker service was working to offload the truck and move the debris. Crews had reopened the express lanes and two lanes of travel to drivers as of 6:45 p.m.
The tractor-trailer was carrying a load of frozen vegetables and French fries.
No injuries were reported.
