BUFORD

The Buford Wolves remain undefeated at 25-0 this season. The team has held the No. 1 ranked position in the nation for more than 20 days.

On Thursday, April 8, Buford played Brookwood at Gerald McQuaig Field, where the Wolves would go on to beat the Broncos 8-1.

On the mound for the Wolves was junior Jackson Gaspard. The right-handed pitcher would be the winning pitcher. He went 1-for-3 at-bat to assist Buford.

Leading the offense for Buford was Dylan Lesko, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Riley Stanford was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, which included a three-run homer, Treyton Rank was 2-for-3 driving in two runs and Nate Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Buford travels to take on the 19th-ranked team nationally, Winder-Barrow, in a region game at 5 p.m. and another game immediately following at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 12. They return home at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, to finish out the series with Winder-Barrow.

The Wolves’ last regular-season game will be on Thursday, April 22, when they host a non-region game against Grayson at 5:55 p.m.

LANIER

The Lanier Longhorns had the past week off. Their last game played was Thursday, April 1, against Shiloh. Lanier swept the three-game series outscoring the Raiders 28-3 over the course of the series.

Lanier’s overall current record is 8-15 and 6-6 in Region 8-AAAAAA.

On Monday, April 12, the Longhorns travel to play the Dacula Falcons. They host the Falcons on Wednesday, April 14, and are again on the road at Dacula on Friday, April 16. 

The Longhorns then begin a three-game series with Habersham Central starting on Monday, April 19 (away), Wednesday, April 21 (home-Senior Night), and Friday, April 23 (away). All games start at 6 p.m. 

NORTH GWINNETT

North Gwinnett had an away game at Allatoona, which was a non-region game. The Bulldogs defeated them 6-4.

North’s overall current record is 11-13 and 7-2 in Region 8-AAAAAAA.

Up next, the Bulldogs will travel to play Archer on Monday, April 12, followed by another road trip to play Lovett on Thursday, April 15.

North resumes region play on Monday, April 19, when the team hosts Mill Creek for the first of a three-game series. The second game against Mill Creek is at Mill Creek on Wednesday, April 21, while they are back home on Friday, April 23, to wrap up their regular season. All games start at 6 p.m.

STATE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

The first round of the GHSA State Championship tournament will be held April 28 through 30, while the second round is slated for May 3 through 6. The quarterfinals are scheduled for May 8 through 12 and the semifinals are to take place between May 13 and 18. The State Championship finals will be held at Truist Field (Atlanta Braves’ stadium) in Marietta May 24 through 26 for AAAAAA and AAAAAAA.
