Study finds Gwinnett Public Library delivers big value

GWINNETT COUNTY — A new independent analysis from the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government confirms what many residents already know — the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL) delivers exceptional value for the community.

Using 2024 operational data, the study calculated $92.5 million in total community benefits, reflecting a $3.40 return for every $1 of public funding. That figure includes $76 million in direct library services, plus indirect and induced economic impacts.

“This study shows that GCPL is a high-leverage investment,” said Charles Pace, Executive Director of Gwinnett County Public Library. “Every dollar entrusted to us multiplies into real outcomes—stronger families, better-prepared students, more resilient job-seekers, and connected communities.”

Delivering Everyday Impact

The report highlights how GCPL’s resources support residents in practical, life-changing ways:

  • Digital Access & Skills: More than 400,000 in-library computer sessions and 1.4 million Wi-Fi connections helped patrons complete homework, apply for jobs and benefits, file taxes, and build digital literacy.
  • Lifelong Learning: Nearly 240,000 program attendees participated in early literacy, teen STEM, adult upskilling, and wellness programs.
  • Reading & Media: Over 3.5 million checkouts—including print, audiobooks, and eBooks—supported learning, entertainment, and workforce readiness.
  • Small Business & Study Space: More than 13,000 uses of meeting and study rooms fostered tutoring, entrepreneurship, and community collaboration.
  • Trusted Help: Library staff answered over 176,000 reference questions, assisting with research, schoolwork, and critical information needs.
  • Community Partnerships: Through museum and park passes, 18,640 volunteer hours, and technology lending, GCPL extended its reach far beyond library walls.

Looking Ahead

GCPL plans to continue expanding cost-effective services, with an emphasis on digital inclusion, early literacy, workforce development, and multilingual resources to meet the needs of Gwinnett’s growing and diverse population.
