Storytime in Dacula brings books and smiles to local families

DACULA — The joy of reading lit up the Dacula branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library on Wednesday morning as dozens of children gathered for a special storytime filled with laughter, learning—and free books to take home.

The event, held Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m., was hosted by Ferst Readers in partnership with Gwinnett County Public Library, Gwinnett County Public Schools, and Gwinnett Building Babies’ Brains. It brought families together for a fun, educational morning focused on helping young children build early literacy skills.

Local and state leaders came out in support, joining children on the floor during storytime and connecting with parents and educators. Among those in attendance were Gwinnett County Commissioner Jasper Watkins, State Rep. Segun Adeyina, Dacula Mayor Trey King, Councilman Denis Haynes Jr., School Board Member Rachel Ruffin Stone, Library Executive Director Charles Pace, GCPS Early Learning Director Kim Holland, and Julie Walker, vice chancellor of Georgia Libraries.

Each child went home with a brand-new book, gifted by Ferst Readers. The organization also donated extra books to the library to continue spreading the love of reading in the Dacula community.

Ferst Readers is a nonprofit with a heartfelt mission: to help every child develop a love for books from the very beginning. Families who enroll in the program receive a free book every month in the mail from birth until their 5th birthday—no strings attached, no cost ever. The program is made possible through the dedication of local volunteers, generous donors, and strong community partnerships.

For parents, caregivers, and little ones alike, Wednesday’s storytime was more than just a fun morning—it was a reminder that reading together can open up a world of possibilities.
