On Monday, Jan. 17, Nutrition & Food Science students in Buford High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program were busy preparing cookies for a special event — on Saturday, Feb. 1, Buford City Schools’ CTE program will host its sixth annual Cookies and Cocoa 5K, with proceeds benefiting students who are part of the CTE program.

The 5K run/walk will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Buford High School, with race-day registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the school’s athletics building lobby. Registration is $30 for in-person and virtual runners. Virtual participants must sign up by noon Friday, Jan. 31.

Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as first and second place awards for male and female runners for the following age categories: 9 and younger; 10-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59, 60-69, 70-plus.

In addition to the 5K run/walk, the event will include vendor booths, games and face painting.

Money raised during the 5K will help send students to Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) national competitions. Last year, the 5K enabled 21 students to attend their CTSO competitions.
