Saturday Softball Report: Buford goes 1-for-2 at Ram Classic tournament

LOGANVILLE — The Buford varsity softball team competed in the Ram Classic tournament held at Grayson High School on Saturday, Sept. 19.  The Lady Wolves played against East Coweta and Jones County.

EAST COWETA  7    BUFORD  1

In the first game on Saturday, East Coweta claimed victory over Buford with a score of 7-1.  Freshman pitcher Emma Grace Williams got her first loss of the season.  Williams (8-1) pitched for five innings, gave up nine hits, seven runs, and struck out four.  Senior Riley Reese relieved Williams to pitch the sixth inning.

Buford’s defense was lacking in the game against East Coweta.  A fielding error and a throwing error would be costly for the Lady Wolves.

East Coweta’s pitching held Buford’s offensive down.  Buford’s offensive standouts were senior Emmy Hall who went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base, as well as junior Taylor Malvin who was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

BUFORD  8    JONES COUNTY  3

The Lady Wolves would rebound from the loss of their first game of the day to beat Jones County 8-3.  Reese (2-1) pitches all seven innings and records the win for Buford.  She gave up seven hits, three runs, and struck out seven.

Sophomore Emma Castorri led the Lady Wolves offensively earning two RBIs as she was 2-for-3 at the plate.  Hall was 2-for-2, earned an RBI and scored three runs.  Junior Shamya Young rounds out the offensive standouts for Buford.  She was 1-for-3 with a triple and earned two RBIs.

Buford’s overall record is now 18-3.  As these were non-region games, Buford remains 9-0 in their region.

Buford will make up a previously rained out game at Norcross on Monday, Sept. 21.  The game time is 5:30 p.m.
