Suspect in four jewelry store snatch-and-grab robberies arrested

A Cumming man has been arrested in connection with snatch-and-grab robberies at four Gwinnett County jewelry stores.

Jonathan Louis Weston, 32, has been charged with four counts of robbery and one count of battery.

The first robbery took place Friday, Dec. 24, at Helzberg Diamonds at the Mall of Georgia in Buford. When the store manager handed a pair of diamond earrings to the suspect, the man fled the store. The earrings are valued at $4,500.

A second theft occurred Monday, Dec. 27, at Diamond Ring Company at the Mall of Georgia in Buford. Read a summary of the incident report regarding that theft here.

On Wednesday, Dec. 29, the suspect entered the Jewelry Box Outlet at Sugarloaf Mills Mall in Lawrenceville and asked to see a diamond ring. When the ring was given to the man, he snatched it and ran. The ring is valued at $8,900.

The fourth incident took place at the Zales store at Sugarloaf Mills Mall in Lawrenceville, where the suspect entered the store and asked to see a diamond ring. When the ring was handed over, the suspect snatched it and fled. A passerby heard the employee yell and attempted to stop the suspect, but the passerby was pepper-sprayed in the face. Witnesses were able to take down the suspect’s license plate as he drove away.

Forsyth County deputies pulled the suspect over and arrested him with the assistance of the Gwinnett Special Investigation Section. Weston was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail and held without bond.
