Police arrest man found running naked through Buford streets

A man who was arrested after running naked through the streets of Buford is facing charges of indecent exposure and simple battery against a police officer.

On the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 10, an officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a call in reference to a man running fully naked near Forest Green Drive in Buford. Upon arrival at the location, the officer found the naked man, Matthew Chavez, 33, placed him under arrest, escorted him to his patrol car and placed him in the back seat. When the officer asked the suspect what he was doing running around naked, the suspect used an expletive and spat in the officer’s face.

The suspect’s clothes were located nearby and contained the man’s wallet.

Paramedics on scene examined the suspect as the officer suspected he may be on some type of drugs. The suspect was then transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. During transport, the suspect began kicking the doors and partition in the back seat of the patrol vehicle.

Chavez, whose city of residence is listed as Dacula on the police incident report and as Sugar Hill in booking information, was released from the Gwinnett County on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
