Pickens twins power Buford softball to victory over Walnut Grove

LOGANVILLE — The Buford varsity softball team headed out to Loganville to play former region rival Walnut Grove on Monday. The Wolves pulled off the win over the Warriors with a score of 5-1.

On the mound for Buford was sophomore pitcher Olivia Duncan.  Duncan earns her eighth win and sixth full game pitched. In seven innings of work, she gave up four hits, one run, walked three, and struck out eight batters.

Powering the Wolves to victory on Monday were the Pickens twins, Mackenzie and Madison. Mackenzie was 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, two RBIs and scored a run while Madison went 2-for-3 at the plate earning an RBI.  The twins accounted for three out of the five runs Buford scored against Walnut Grove.

Senior Emmy Hall was 2-for-4 on the night and freshman Tavye Borders was 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases.

Buford’s overall season record improves to 24-4.  They remain undefeated in Region 8-AAAAAA at 13-0.

Buford will host Winder-Barrow for a region game on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m. at the Buford Softball Complex.
