NORTH GWINNETT

SUWANEE – The Lady Bulldogs took on North Forsyth defeating them 9-6. The game was delayed for 98 minutes due to storms in the area. The second game against Duluth was their region opener which they soundly put down the Wildcats with a 13-0 win.

In the game against North Forsyth, freshman pitcher Amber Reed picked up the win for North.  The Lady Bulldogs trailed 2-6 after just two innings but they didn’t give up.  Their comeback was kicked off by junior Haley Cummings three-run homer followed by a two-RBI hit by Carolyn Shumeyko leading to their 9-6 victory over North Forsyth.

In the region opener against Duluth on Thursday night, North Gwinnett’s pitching duo of Jaylyn Benson and Ella Janish combined their talents to shut out the Wildcats 13-0.  Senior Morgan Frye led the offense for North with a two-run home run.  Another senior Page Nellis contributed two hits and earned two RBIs while Cummings and Marisa Miller each had two hits for North Gwinnett (6-0, 1-0).

North Gwinnett has a non-region game at home on Friday, August 16 at 8 p.m. against Harris County.

LANIER

WINDER — The season has not been especially kind to the Lady Longhorns varsity softball team.  They have lost both of the games they have played thus far, both region games.  Lanier lost to Apalachee recently and lost to Winder-Barrow 5-4 in the seventh inning last night at Winder-Barrow High School.  Lanier goes 0-2, 0-2.

Lanier will take on another region opponent on the road at Habersham Central next Tuesday, August 20 at 6:30 p.m.
