NORCROSS — A late-night apartment fire destroyed four units and heavily damaged two others Sunday at the Las Palmas apartments, displacing 30 residents, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:03 p.m. to the complex at 2113 Seasons Parkway after multiple 911 callers reported a fire. Callers said all occupants had evacuated the building before crews arrived.
Fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions in a three-story, multi-family building, with flames concentrated on the rear of the structure. Firefighters deployed five hose lines and two aerial apparatus. The fire was brought under control at 10:31 p.m.
The building sustained significant fire and water damage, affecting six apartment units. Four units were ruled a total loss, while two suffered heavy fire damage. Officials said the fire did not spread to neighboring apartment buildings.
Crews remained on scene for an extended period extinguishing hot spots and ensuring the fire was fully out. Medical units were used for firefighter rehabilitation. No injuries were reported.
One resident told firefighters they heard a “pop,” went to investigate and discovered the fire before evacuating. Smoke alarms were not active in the affected units at the time of the fire, officials said.
The American Red Cross and apartment management are assisting displaced residents.
Fire investigators determined the fire originated on the second-floor rear of the building. The cause remains undetermined.
Resources on scene included six engines, two ladder trucks, a squad, a rescue unit, a medical unit, a medical supervisor, three command staff units, an air and light unit, a fire investigator and a public information officer.
