UPDATE #2

Firefighters from Gwinnett County were dispatched to the fire at 382 West Moreno Street at 11:18 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019, and were on scene just four minutes later.  When they arrived, they found the one-story structure with flames and smoke coming out of the windows on all sides of the home.  It was quickly ascertained that the lone resident was not home at the time of the fire.

Due to the intensity of the fire, units first had to attack the flames in a defensive nature to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.  Once the flames were knocked back, firefighters began an interior attack on the fire.  “While extinguishing hidden fire in the attic and void spaces, crews searched the structure and located a deceased dog in the home,” said Gwinnett County Fire Public Information Officer, Lt. Justin Wilson in a written statement sent to the North Gwinnett Voice.

The home sustained heavy fire damage including a partial collapse of the floor into the crawl space. The fire was brought under control at 12:09 a.m.

Fire Investigators determined that the fire originated in the center of the home in the subfloor and is electrical in nature.

No civilians or firefighters were injured during this blaze.

Three fire trucks, a ladder truck, and an assortment of other fire and medic personnel responded to the scene.

Firefighters encourage all citizens to practice home fire safety. Be sure to install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each bedroom. Develop a home escape plan and practice fire drills regularly. Check and maintain home heating appliances such as the furnace, fireplace and space heater. For additional information on home fire safety, please contact the Gwinnett Fire Community Risk Reduction Division at 678-518-4845 or email fireprograms@gwinnettcounty.com.
