Man barricades himself in Flowery Branch home causing SWAT standoff

A SWAT standoff lasted more than eight hours on Wednesday, April 27, after police say a man threatened officers and then barricaded himself inside his home in Flowery Branch.

Officers with the Flowery Branch Police Department arrived to a home on Lake Overlook Lane and Scarlett Oak Way at approximately 2:30 p.m. to serve legal documents to a man there. Once inside the home, police say the man pulled a gun and began to threaten the officers. The officers retreated from the home, set up a perimeter and called Hall County SWAT for assistance.

During the standoff, police say the suspect fired multiple shots but no one was injured.

Negotiations lasted until after 11 p.m. at the home in the Sterling on the Lake subdivision, which kept many residents from being able to access to their homes for hours.

The Flowery Branch Police Department was asking the public to avoid the area of Lake Overlook Lane and Scarlett Oak Way but has since posted an update to the department’s Facebook page.

“The issue has been resolved peacefully and the roadways are now open,” Flowery Branch Police Department shared. “Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe!”

The identity of the suspect had not been released.
