Mackenzie Pickens led the Buford offense in their defeat of Walnut Grove

While on the road in a non-conference game, Buford was able to defeat a good Walnut Grove team 8-3. Going into the fifth inning, both teams were tied at 3-3. The Lady Wolves were able to break away from the Lady Warriors  Buford was able to score three runs in the fifth and a run in both the sixth and seventh innings to add extra insurance.

The winning pitcher for Buford was sophomore Emma Grace Williams (3-0) who gave up five hits, three runs (one earned), struck out four and walked one in five innings of work. Junior Olivia Duncan took over in the sixth inning to seal the win for Buford. She struck out three and walked one during two innings of relief.

Sophomore Mackenzie Pickens was on fire at-bat on Monday night as she went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a solo home run, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead Buford’s offense. Fellow sophomore Adriana Martinez also had a good game on the offense where she was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBIs. Senior Olivia Haag was 3-for-3 with an RBI to round out the offensive standouts for the Lady Wolves.

Buford’s overall season record improves to 6-1.

Buford will host region opponent Lanier on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Buford Softball Complex.
