Lanier High School band and football team partner with Meals to Missions to make a lasting impact
Sugar Hill, GA – In a remarkable show of unity and compassion, students from Lanier High School’s Band and Football Team have teamed up to take on a mission greater than music or sports: fighting hunger at home and in one of the nation’s poorest regions.
Through the support of Meals to Missions, a national nonprofit organization known for its impactful meal-packing events, Lanier students aim to raise $160,000 by August 1st to fund the packing and distribution of 10,000 nutritious, shelf-stable meals. These meals will be shared both locally in Sugar Hill, GA, and in the underserved school systems of Harlan County, KY — a region deeply affected by poverty.
The initiative goes far beyond traditional fundraising. With Meals to Missions’ innovative model, students and volunteers don’t just raise money; they engage in a hands-on mission experience by packing the meals themselves. These events are high-energy, high-impact, and weatherproof, allowing communities to rally together indoors to make a tangible difference.

“This is bigger than football or music — this is about students making a real difference,” said Melanie Busch, spokesperson for the initiative. “Our kids may not come from wealth, but they have huge hearts and an unstoppable spirit.”
To date, the Meals to Missions Foundation has helped organize nearly 500 mission-style events, generating over $30 million for food relief and reaching children in need worldwide, from local food banks to refugee camps and orphanages overseas.
Lanier’s students are now calling on the greater Sugar Hill and Atlanta metro community to support their campaign. Funds raised will go directly toward meal ingredients, packing supplies, and shipping logistics.
“This mission isn’t just about food,” Busch added. “It’s about empowering youth, uplifting communities, and inspiring change. Every dollar, every share, every word of encouragement makes a difference.”
