Two Suwanee-based organizations have received funding from the Jackson EMC Foundation.

During its April meeting, the foundation awarded the following grants:

  • $15,000 to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM Georgia) in Suwanee for its summer Opportunities Academy to educate rising 10th and 11th grade students in Gwinnett County Public Schools in medicine, health and behavioral sciences
  • $15,000 to Spectrum Autism Support Group for a parent-run nonprofit group in Suwanee that provides Gwinnett families with support, education and resources for the entire spectrum of autism disorders, to help disadvantaged autistic individuals ages 4 to 22 attend the organization’s weeklong summer camp program, with daily activities that teach lessons in social skills

The Jackson EMC Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to represent the members of Jackson Electric Membership Corporation and allocate funds collected through Operation Round Up. Its mission is to distribute money collected to worthwhile, charitable purposes that will improve lives and address immediate needs within the counties where Jackson EMC provides electric service.

Additional organizations serving Gwinnett County residents received the following grants:

  • $15,000 to DIVAS Who Win Freedom Center Inc. for its Freedom Experience and Freedom Boutique Program to assist with rent to create a safe space for women in Barrow, Clarke, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson and Madison counties overcoming addictions, prostitution and sex trafficking
  • $10,000 to MUST Ministries Inc. for its summer lunch program, which provides breakfast and lunch to children in need in Gwinnett County five days per week for nine weeks
  • $5,000 to Freedom Path Counseling to provide one-on-one and group counseling services for residents in Clarke, Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall and Madison counties
