Kathy Hazel Hakes (Griffith), age 63, of Lavonia, GA, formerly of Buford, GA passed away on November 5, 2019. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Frances Hill and William Hoyt Griffeth, daughter, Cecilia Dawn Day, grandson, Staff Sergeant Adam Nabor, USAF. Sisters, Shelby Sims, Nell Harvey, and Hilda Brewer and brother, Markerson Aaron Griffeth.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Duane Edmund Hakes of Lavonia; daughter, Jillena Maria Smith of Buford, stepchildren Aaron and Sandi Nabor of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Erik Matthew Day and Olivia Grace Smith of Buford and Phillip Nabor of Green Bay, WI; sisters Pam Bradshaw (Dave) of Bogart, Sue Chancey (Walter) of Nicholson; brother, Andy Griffeth (Harriet) of Covington; sister in law – Mary Jane Eichelt (Herbert)- Stanley WI, Darlene Selzer (Richard) – Stanley WI, Debbie Kesting (Dwayne) – Chippewa WI; brother-in-law – Ronald Hakes (Pat Evans) – Sobieski WI, Kenneth Hakes (Kathy Berlin) – Stanley WI; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. 

Ms. Hakes was born on July 10, 1956, in High Shoals, GA.  She was previously an employee of the Sugar Hill Post Office and owner of The Woodshed furniture store in the Buford Mall in the 90’s. She moved to the Stephen/Franklin County area in 1997 and was a bus driver for Franklin County Schools for 14 years before she retired. She will be remembered by the genuine friendships she was a part of and the laughter that she carried with her.

In lieu of flowers or food the family requests donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Kathy Hakes.
