I was so excited to explore more trails after visiting the trails at Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center. On my next adventure I discovered that those same trails link up to the main trail system included in the Ivy Creek Greenway. This trail system, located along the banks of its namesake, Ivy Creek, is located in Northern Gwinnett County near the Mall of Georgia. I have lived in this area for over 5 years, just about a mile away from this amazing place and I am just now discovering it! After doing some research, I can see that even after several hikes, there is still so much more I have to explore and discover.

There are many things that I love about this trail system, but there are definitely two features that make it a favorite. The first would be its Diversity. There are so many options as to the type of experience you are looking for. There are flat, wide paved trails that are perfect for walking, biking, or even enjoying a leisurely stroller walk with your little one. Although these trails are paved, they still afford you the ability to enjoy the lush nature surrounding you. There are also gravel and dirt trails that reach out further into nature than the paved trails. Many of these link up to man made boardwalks that meander you through the quiet beauty of nature as you take in the canopy of trees around you, and the sound of water peacefully trickling nearby. You actually feel like you have become a part of the environment surrounding you.

This leads me to the second thing that I love the most about the Ivy Creek Greenway, the stunning Natural Beauty. On the Ivy Creek Greenway trails you are sure to experience stunning nature and surprises around every corner. I have been in awe every single time, and have never left disappointed. Walking around a corner to discover a newly found waterfall or water feature is so exhilarating. It’s also so peaceful to wander through the marshlands that have been nicely maintained with boardwalks, and enjoy the wildlife filled environment. The marshland trails are marked with signage to educate you on the many native plants, trees and animals that call this place home. On our adventures we have seen turtles, fish, geese, various birds, and even deer!

I can’t say enough about the Ivy Creek Greenway trails. If you’re looking for a great workout trail, a nice peaceful place to walk in nature and meditate, or just a fun, family nature filled outing, this is definitely the place for you!
