Inaugural Show Opening Soon at Eagle Theatre

The Eagle Theatre is the first section of the City of Sugar Hill’s new E Center slated to open.  The resident theatre group for the 406 seat, art deco style Eagle Theatre is the Players Guild of Sugar Hill.  They are presenting The Importance of Being Earnest as their inaugural show at the Eagle Theatre.  It will run from November 2nd through November 18th.

The Players Guild of Sugar Hill has been together since 2014 with Chairman Ane Mulligan and Vice Chairman Alan Hyma at the helm.  They previously performed at the soon to be torn down Buice Building, as well as, at Sugar Hill City Hall. Moving into the Eagle Theatre combined with the guild’s previous productions, the Players Guild of Sugar Hill is growing in terms of size, as well as, their popularity.

“The guild’s performance of The Importance of Being Earnest is being directed by Jimmy Spearman. The most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s comedies, this elegantly absurd plot centers on Jack Worthing, who is “Ernest” in town. He wins Gwendolen’s hand, but she declares that she chiefly loves him for his name Ernest—the name Jack has allotted to his non-existent brother whose peccadilloes explain his frequent absences from his country home, where he lives with his pretty ward, Cecily. Another formidable impediment to Jack’s happiness is Lady Bracknell, who shudders at Jack’s having been found in a handbag at Victoria Station. Meanwhile, Cecily has decided to marry “Ernest.” When Algernon presents himself in this guise, she immediately accepts his proposal. But she too will only marry an “Ernest”. However, through some highly improbable coincidences, all is happily resolved,” describes the upcoming performance taken from a recent press release sent by the City of Sugar Hill.

The Eagle Theatre will also be home to the Broad St. Concert Band.  The City of Sugar Hill announced that the theatre has attracted nationally-touring acts as well.  The theatre will also be available for the community to rent out when the guild and the Broad St. Concert Band is not scheduled.  All of these opportunities are part of the City of Sugar Hill’s plan to have the downtown a thriving and vibrant entertainment district.

The Eagle Theater is located at 5029 W Broad Street. Parking is available along the street and in the brand new 100-space underground parking deck under the newly developed E Center.
