Student Gun Hoax Leads to Multiple Charges

On February 16th at around 4 pm, the driver of a school bus transporting students from Chestatee Middle and High Schools received a threat that a student had a gun on the bus. The driver stated that he’d heard someone on the bus shout, “He has a gun.”

The driver immediately radioed the Hall County bus shop, who alerted authorities and the driver was instructed to pull over.  Dawsonville Highway was closed for a short time as officers with the Gainesville Police Department searched the bus. No weapons were found and authorities determined that the incident was a hoax perpetrated by a 16-year-old male student. The student, according to officials with Hall County school district, the student thought it would be funny to yell out a threat about having a gun.

The student was arrested and transported to  the Regional  Youth  Detention  Center, where he has been charged with Disorderly  Conduct,  Disrupting  Operation Of a  Public  School Bus,  and Simple Assault.
