Hall County deputies find more than 1,000 grams of methamphetamine during traffic stop

A routine traffic stop conducted by Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies led to the discovery of more than 1,000 grams of meth.

Just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, deputies pulled over a pickup truck displaying a tag belonging to a different vehicle with no insurance. The traffic stop was conducted near the intersection of Old Winder Highway and Friendship Road in Braselton.

Open beer containers were observed in plain view during the stop, which lead deputies to suspect the driver may be driving under the influence. Georgia State Patrol arrived at the scene to assist with the investigation and conducted the field sobriety test on the driver, 50-year-old John Ray Campbell of Gastonia, North Carolina, who was charged with DUI.

During a further search of the suspect’s vehicle, a deputy found a backpack in the truck bed that, according to the HCSO, contained more than 1,000 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $77,000.

Campbell is currently being held in the Hall County jail with no bond.
