Gwinnett schools to receive additional police presence Wednesday following Texas school shooting

The Gwinnett County Police Department announced on Tuesday evening that they will be conducting extra patrols, as well as be highly visible at all Gwinnett schools on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Gwinnett PD will be working in conjunction with their partners at the GCPS School Police Department.

Police stress that there are no known threats to any of the Gwinnett County schools. Officers will be on hand to provide safety and comfort for residents.

This decision was made following the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. An 18-year-old male entered the school and killed 19 children and two adults, as well as having killed his grandmother prior to entering the elementary school.

“The Gwinnett Police Department would like to offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims in the shooting today at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas,” said the Gwinnett Police Department in a written statement.
