LAWRENCEVILLE — In the lead-up to Veterans Day, Gwinnett County is inviting residents, businesses, and community organizations to show their gratitude to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces by lighting their homes, offices, and storefronts green from November 4 through November 11.
The initiative is part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a national campaign led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) to honor veterans and raise awareness about the challenges many face after returning home from service.
Gwinnett County is joining hundreds of counties, cities, and towns across the country in illuminating buildings and landmarks green as a visible expression of support. The Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville will be lit in green throughout the week to symbolize the county’s appreciation for veterans’ courage and commitment.
“Operation Green Light provides a simple yet powerful way to recognize the men and women who have served our nation,” said county officials. “By lighting homes and buildings green, we’re sending a unified message of gratitude and hope to veterans and their families.”
Residents can take part by changing just one light—indoors or outdoors—to a green bulb during the week of Veterans Day. The act may be small, but the collective impact is significant, serving as a glowing reminder of the community’s shared respect and thanks for those who have served and sacrificed.
Now in its fifth year, Operation Green Light also seeks to highlight the resources available to veterans and their families, including housing, education, mental health, and employment assistance. According to NACo, the initiative not only honors veterans’ service but also encourages communities to strengthen their commitment to supporting them in civilian life.
Gwinnett County encourages everyone to join the effort and share photos of their green lights on social media using #OperationGreenLight to help spread awareness and inspire others to participate.
