Gwinnett fire officials arrest two after incendiary blaze at Snellville business

SNELLVILLE — Two men have been arrested following a Tuesday afternoon fire at a Snellville auto service business that investigators later determined was intentionally set, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:27 p.m. to reports of a commercial structure fire at Mavis Tires & Brakes, located at 3887 Centerville Rosebud Road SW. A 911 caller reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the rear of the business.

Crews arrived on scene at 2:33 p.m. and found an active fire in a single-story detached garage behind the main building. Flames were venting through the roof, and a portion of the structure had already collapsed.

Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line and used an aerial master stream from a ladder truck to attack the fire. Centerville Rosebud Road was temporarily closed in front of the business to allow crews to connect to a hydrant across the street.

All occupants were confirmed to be safely out of the building. Firefighters also established safety teams due to multiple hazards on scene, including a downed power line and the garage’s enclosed layout, which limited escape routes.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 2:45 p.m. One person was evaluated and released at the scene for smoke inhalation. No additional injuries were reported.

Georgia Power and Atlanta Gas Light responded to secure utilities, including the downed power line. A hazardous materials team was also called to assess potential environmental concerns.

Fire investigators later determined the blaze was incendiary in nature. Since the incident, two adult male suspects have been charged in connection with the fire. Authorities did not immediately release their names or specific charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
