LAWRENCEVILLE — The Gwinnett County Police Department will host a two-day police officer hiring event Feb. 6–7, offering applicants an expedited path into one of metro Atlanta’s largest law enforcement agencies.
The event will take place Friday, Feb. 6, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Applicants are encouraged to submit an application in advance. Once an application is received, an investigator will contact the applicant to schedule an appointment time. Walk-ins are permitted, though longer wait times are expected. Applicants are not required to attend both days.
The hiring process may take several hours. Applicants should plan accordingly and bring all documents requested by their investigator when scheduling the appointment.
Phase I of the hiring event includes an orientation, physical agility test, oral interview, psychological exam and an initial background check. Conditional job offers will be extended to those who qualify. Phase II of the process will take place at a later date. The full hiring process typically takes about 90 days to complete.
Gwinnett County Police offers a 4% annual raise for officers, along with a 5% shift differential for night watch uniform patrol officers. Educational incentives include a 3% pay increase for a two-year college degree and a 6% increase for a four-year degree. Salaries range from $55,923 to $86,090, and eligible hires may receive a hiring bonus equal to 10% of starting pay.
Applicants who receive a final job offer may begin employment immediately, regardless of the start date of the next police academy.

The department employs 931 sworn officers, 141 communications officers and 205 civilian employees and operates specialized units including K-9, aviation, SWAT, computer forensics, accident investigations, hazardous devices and crime prevention.
