Google and YouTube are experiencing widespread outages Monday morning

Google and YouTube experienced outages on Monday.

Google and YouTube are experiencing widespread outages on Monday morning nationwide, as well as in many other countries across the globe.  This is impacting Google Classroom, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Play, Google Hangouts, Google Meet, Google Calendar, Google Cloud, Google Nest, YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music.  Apps or websites that one might have linked to their Google account to login with may experience difficulty logging into them as well.

The first reports of outages according to downdetector.com started at approximately 6:50 a.m. with YouTube going down.  Gmail and other Google apps were reported just minutes later as having gone down.  Some Google accounts and services are slowly coming back online.

The outages are particularly frustrating for high school students across the nation as students are preparing for final exams this week.  So much of students’ notes and workload are now virtual and rely heavily on Google’s platform.

Buford City Schools sent out a text to parents at 7:35 a.m. Monday notifying them of the nationwide outage with Google and thanked them for their patience.

Google nor YouTube have yet to acknowledge the outages.

This is an unprecedented outage that has lasted over an hour. It is particularly worrisome as we realize just how far-reaching Google is in our everyday life.  People rely on Google for information, business, education purposes, entertainment, and even to control things within one’s own home.
