GCPS schools recognized as math and literacy leaders in state

Email :

GWINNETT – Gwinnett County Public Schools has earned statewide recognition for academic performance, with nearly 30 campuses named 2024-25 Math Leader Schools and more than a dozen designated Literacy Leader Schools by the Georgia Department of Education.

The Math Leader honor highlights schools that showed strong achievement or notable growth in the percentage of students scoring at the “Proficient Learner” level or higher on the Georgia Milestones math assessments. The designation focuses on fifth- and eighth-grade numeracy and sets higher growth expectations for schools that began with lower proficiency rates.

Among the Gwinnett schools recognized for math performance are Bay Creek Middle, Britt Elementary, Coleman Middle, Crews Middle, Dacula Middle, Five Forks Middle, Lanier Middle, Northbrook Middle, Seckinger High, Suwanee Elementary and Twin Rivers Middle.

The Literacy Leader designation honors campuses that demonstrated either high achievement or growth in the share of students reading at or above grade level, particularly in third and sixth grades. High school recognition is based on performance on the American Literature End-of-Course exam.

Gwinnett’s Literacy Leader schools include Anderson-Livsey Elementary, Archer High, Coleman Middle, the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, Harmony Elementary, North Gwinnett High, Pharr Elementary, Riverside Elementary and Suwanee Elementary.

Interim Superintendent Al Taylor said the recognition reflects the district’s ongoing work to strengthen core instruction and support student achievement in critical skill areas.

Statewide, 479 schools were named Math Leaders and 406 earned the Literacy Leader designation.
