LAWRENCEVILLE — Four adults were found shot to death early Friday inside a Gwinnett County home, and three children inside the residence were not injured after hiding during the violence and calling 911, police said.
Gwinnett County police responded shortly after 2:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire at a home on Brook Ivy Court in the Lawrenceville area. When officers arrived, they found four adults inside the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. All four were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Police said three children — ages 7, 10 and 12 — were inside the home at the time of the shooting. The children hid in a closet, and the 12-year-old placed the 911 call that led officers to the scene. All three children were physically unharmed.
The suspect was identified as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar of Atlanta, who was taken into custody without incident a short distance from the home, police said.
Authorities identified the victims as 43-year-old Meenu Dogra, Kumar’s wife, along with 33-year-old Gourav Kumar, 37-year-old Nidhi Chander and 38-year-old Harish Chander. Police said the adults were related by blood or marriage and were staying at the home.
Investigators said the shooting appears to be domestic-related, though a motive has not been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
Kumar faces multiple charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children, according to police. Jail records did not immediately list bond information.
The children were later placed in the care of family members, authorities said.
